About this experience

This day tour threads together some of the most scenic corners of the Mt. Fuji area, starting with a ride on the Fujikyu Railway through countryside towns with views of the mountain when skies are clear. From there, the route continues to Arakurayama Sengen Park, known for its classic postcard view of Mt. Fuji rising above the town below, before heading on to Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Yamanaka.

Depending on the ticket you choose, you'll either cruise across Lake Kawaguchi or ride the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway up for an elevated view over the lake and surrounding peaks. Along the way, the tour also stops at a few offbeat photo spots that have become popular around Kawaguchiko, including the Hikawa Clock Shop and, somewhat unexpectedly, a couple of Lawson convenience stores with Mt. Fuji in the background.

It's a practical way to see several of the Fuji Five Lakes in a single outing without having to plan train connections or transfers yourself. The tour wraps up at Lake Yamanaka, where the pace slows down for a last look at the mountain and its lakeside scenery before heading back.

What to expect

The day begins with a scenic ride on the Fujikyu Railway, passing through small towns and countryside with Mt. Fuji visible in the distance on clear days. From the station, the group heads to Arakurayama Sengen Park for one of the most photographed views of Mt. Fuji in the region, then continues on to the Kawaguchiko area for a mix of lakeside scenery and local photo stops, including the Hikawa Clock Shop and a couple of Lawson stores framed by the mountain.

Depending on the ticket selected, the tour includes either a relaxed cruise across Lake Kawaguchi or a ride up the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway for wider views over the lake and surrounding peaks. If either option isn't running, an alternative stop such as Oishi Park may be arranged instead. The day closes at Lake Yamanaka, where the scenery shifts to a quieter, more open view of Mt. Fuji before the return journey.

Things to note

  • Mt. Fuji views depend on weather and visibility, so clear days offer the best chance of seeing the mountain uncovered
  • Wear comfortable shoes, as the day involves walking between train, bus, and viewpoint stops
  • Bring a light jacket even in warmer months, as lake and mountain areas can be breezier than central Tokyo
  • Choose your ticket type in advance, since the cruise and ropeway options are tied to specific ticket selections
  • Charge your camera or phone beforehand for the park and lakeside photo opportunities
  • Trip cancellations due to severe weather are typically decided the day before departure
