About this experience

Singapore Zoo brings you face-to-face with wildlife in barrier-free, naturalistic habitats designed to replicate rainforest and savannah environments. Over 2,800 animals roam across themed zones, giving you close-up views of species in spacious enclosures that feel worlds away from traditional cages. The zoo operates daily from 8:30am to 6pm, and you'll find feeding sessions, keeper talks, and live animal presentations scheduled throughout the day.

The experience is self-paced, with most visitors spending 3 to 5 hours exploring the grounds. Tram rides are available with certain ticket options to help you navigate the park and get an overview of the different zones. Beyond the animals, you'll find a water playground, farmyard encounters, and dining venues scattered throughout the zoo.

What to expect

You'll enter the zoo with your e-ticket and begin exploring themed zones at your own pace. The layout allows you to move freely between habitats, stopping to watch animals in open enclosures that bring you closer to the wildlife than traditional barriers allow. Throughout the day, you can join scheduled feeding sessions and keeper talks to learn directly from zoo staff about animal behaviours and care routines.

If your ticket includes a tram ride, you can hop on for a guided overview of the park's main areas before diving deeper into zones that interest you most. Plan for 3 to 5 hours to cover the major habitats, attend a few presentations, and take breaks at dining spots or the water playground. The zoo stays open until 6pm, giving you flexibility to explore during cooler morning hours or linger into the late afternoon.

Highlights

  • Over 2,800 animals across themed zones featuring rainforest and savannah habitats with barrier-free viewing
  • Daily animal feeding sessions where you can watch and sometimes participate in feeding activities
  • Keeper talks and live presentations showcasing animal behaviours alongside their trainers
  • Tram ride included with select tickets for a guided tour around the zoo's main zones
  • Water playground and farmyard animal encounters designed for younger visitors
  • Open daily from 8:30am to 6pm with self-paced exploration throughout the park

Things to note

  • Wear comfortable walking shoes and light clothing suitable for outdoor exploration in tropical heat
  • The zoo is wheelchair, stroller, and electric scooter accessible across its pathways
  • Outside food and drinks are generally not permitted, except for baby food or items for special dietary needs
  • Some outdoor shows or feeding sessions may be delayed or cancelled during heavy rain
  • Arrive early in the day to see animals at their most active and avoid afternoon crowds

I had an amazing experience visiting Singapore Zoo in Singapore. The overall arrangement and planning of the zoo are truly impressive. Everything is well organized, clean, and easy to navigate, making the visit very comfortable and enjoyable. The management is excellent, with proper facilities, clear directions, and well-maintained enclosures for the animals. There are so many different species to see, including many animals I had never seen before in my life. The open and natural-style habitats make the experience even more special. Overall, it is one of the best zoo experiences I have ever had. Highly recommended for families, tourists, and wildlife lovers.

It is always a pleasure to visit the Singapore Zoo. This is almost a required stop for me whenever I’m in Singapore, aside from Universal Studios. They take excellent care of the animals and have a great, interactive system. Even if you don’t have children, it’s a must-visit. As an adult who loves theme parks, I truly enjoy coming here—I appreciate the nature and only wish we had an internationally acclaimed zoo like this back home. The journey from our hotel was quite long (about an hour each way), but it was definitely worth it. Food prices are, as expected, higher here than in Singapore’s malls. I’d recommend eating beforehand if you’re on a budget. Be sure to try the animal interactions when available—they let you get closer to the animals, especially in Rainforest Kidzworld. The restaurant is okay; it fills you up, but expect to pay a premium. On my last visit, I spent around 3–4 hours, which was enough to explore all areas at a relaxed pace, with breaks and no dining. If you have kids, you’ll likely want to stay longer. For a more comfortable experience, bring a handheld fan, water, and cooling wipes. I’ll certainly be back the next time I’m in Singapore.

Reviewing the zoo experience - world class. Clean, well designed, with plenty to see and learn. Scenic views and the included tram ride were great. Only downside/challenge; the weather, so prepare for the heat, guard against mosquitos, wear good shoes and hydrate. P.S. Shout out to Jagung the corn snake's friendly and knowledgeable keeper. That engagement was the highlight of my visit! 🐍😃

A Wonderful Family Day at Singapore Zoo We recently spent a day at the Singapore Zoo, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. The zoo is massive, beautifully maintained, and offers an incredible experience for visitors of all ages. We ended up spending around 4 to 5 hours there and left completely exhausted—but in the best way possible! A True Immersive Experience - What makes Singapore Zoo stand out is how immersive and natural the enclosures feel. It really lives up to its reputation as one of the best zoos in the world. We managed to see almost all the animals, and it was fascinating to observe them in such well-designed, open habitats. Gift for Children - This zoo is a fantastic place for children. It’s not just about looking at animals—it’s about learning from them. Kids get the chance to connect with nature and see wildlife up close, which is so much more impactful than reading about animals in a textbook. Our little one was absolutely captivated throughout the day. Tip for families with a baby: A stroller is a must—the zoo is huge, and you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Having it made the day so much easier and allowed our baby to rest when needed while we continued exploring. We highly recommend carrying your own food and plenty of water. While there are vending machines scattered around for snacks and cold drinks, having your own supplies helps you stay energised without having to stop and search for food constantly. It also makes it easier to plan your day without interruptions. The Singapore Zoo is a world-class attraction that offers an unforgettable experience for families, couples, and solo travellers alike. Whether you're an animal lover or just looking for a fun and educational day out, this place delivers on every level. Just be prepared for a full day of walking—and don’t forget the stroller and snacks!

Fantastic Day at Singapore Zoo – Go Early for the Best Experience! If you’re planning a visit to the Singapore Zoo, my top tip is to go early – aim for opening time around 8:30 AM. Not only does it help you beat the crowds, but it keeps you ahead of the intense midday heat too. Arriving early means you’ll catch the animals at their most active, as they’re out and about during the cooler morning hours. We saw everything from playful orangutans to majestic elephants without the afternoon lethargy. Don’t miss the morning sea lion splash zone – it’s an absolute highlight! The sea lions put on a show with massive splashes that rival the whale shows at SeaWorld in San Diego (for those who’ve been). Kids and adults alike get soaked and loving it. Loved the freshly squeezed orange juice machines scattered around – super refreshing and a treat we don’t see much back home in India. Perfect for staying hydrated. Getting there is easy too: it’s about 1 hour by public transport from Little India, with smooth connections via MRT train and bus. Super convenient even without a car. Highly recommend for families or animal lovers – 5 stars!
