Kim Choo Nyonya rice dumplings has been a mainstay in Singapore’s diverse epicurean tapestry since 1945. Many covet its rich taste, raiment by the fragrance of Nanyang; finely woven around the humble delicacy. But more importantly is its ability to preserve the traditional, unyielding to the hands of time and untainted by the modern. Today, Kim Choo offers a wide variety of products and services, which seeks to maintain and uplift the Peranakan culture of the Nanyang.

- Private Boutique Tour Through this experience, you will gain a glimpse into understanding the food & material culture of the Peranakans. You will be given the opportunity to observe how traditional sarong kebaya and beaded shoes are being made. Accompanied with a curator, there will also be food samples and drinks offered. Suitable for children and family.

- Peranakan Beading Workshop Learn the basic concepts to complete a basic Peranakan beaded design. This workshop will offer you the an elementary skills required to be adventurous in creating your very own Peranakan beaded shoes or slippers. Advance courses are offered by request only.

- Baking Heirlooms This workshop delves into the history and origins of the wonderful delights that we commonly know as “ kueh “ (local cakes) and “ piah “ (biscuits). We explore how these “ chuchi mulut “ or palate cleansers are now eagerly enjoyed at teatime and as sweet endings to a local meal. Our host, who is a collector of antique baking moulds will showcase her private collection and explain the various motifs, symbolism and stories which make each baking mould a unique piece of art. After all the mouth watering explanations and discussions, what can be more enjoyable than a tea time treat with our distinctive blue tea and Nyonya kuehs. We end the session with a unique souvenir you can call your own, as you make your own original impressions.

전통 디저트를 맛볼 수 있고 다양한 메뉴가 있는 곳. 당일 판매 아웃 시키기 때문에 신선하게 사먹을 수 있어요. 그러나 가끔 맛이 일정하지 않은 건 실망.

레드 하우스 바로 옆에 있는 지점에서 샀어요. 사장님이 친절하게 2층에서 식사할 수 있다고 알려주셨어요! 2층은 온도도 적당하고 분위기도 아주 좋았어요. 뇨냐 쿠에(Nyonya kueh)도 정말 맛있었어요! 😋

만두는 사지 않았지만, 옆에 있는 문화센터와 위층 전시관을 둘러봤습니다. 전에 일본인 기자가 쓴 페라나칸 문화에 관한 책을 읽었는데, 그 책에서 김추 만두 창업자의 후손을 인터뷰했더군요. 기자가 그 후손이 전통 페라나칸 의상을 만들고 있다고 언급했는데, 마침 가게 2층 재봉실에서 그분을 잠깐 볼 수 있었습니다(외부인 출입 금지). 페라나칸 가구와 골동품을 구경하려면 위층에 꼭 가보시길 추천합니다.

여기는 뇨냐 음식을 맛보기에 정말 좋은 곳이에요. 대만식 찹쌀 경단과는 완전히 다른 맛이에요. 어쨌든, 저는 여기서 정말 즐거운 시간을 보냈어요. 직원분들이 이 지역에서 가볼 만한 곳도 알려주셔서 정말 따뜻하게 맞아주신 것 같아요.

프리미엄 호키엔 창(소금에 절인 계란과 밤이 들어간)을 미니 사이즈로 주문했는데, 정말 어이가 없었어요. 사진을 찍었는데도 직원이 제가 직접 가져다주길 바라더라고요. 서비스도 최악이었고 맛도 형편없었어요. 돈만 낭비했네요.
