About this experience
Versailles was the official residence of the French monarchy from 1682 to 1789, and this full access ticket gets you into every part of the estate worth seeing. Inside the palace, walk through the ornate State Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors, the room where French kings once received foreign dignitaries and hosted the court of Louis XIV. Exhibits and period rooms throughout the palace trace the lives of the French royals who lived here.
Beyond the palace walls, the gardens stretch out in formal patterns of manicured lawns, fountains and sculpture. This ticket also covers the Grand and Petit Trianon, the smaller residences where Louis XIV escaped the formality of court life, and Marie Antoinette's Estate, her private refuge away from the main palace. During spring and summer, an optional upgrade adds access to the Musical Gardens or the Fountain Show, when the gardens' fountains perform choreographed displays set to music.
Whether you're spending an afternoon or making a full day of it, this ticket to one of Paris's grandest landmarks covers everything you need to explore Versailles at your own pace, from the gilded interiors to the grounds outside.
What to expect
Your visit starts at the Palace of Versailles, where you'll move through the State Apartments and into the Hall of Mirrors, taking in the gilded ceilings and the scale of a residence built for the French monarchy. Information throughout the palace fills in the history of Louis XIV and the royals who followed him, giving context to the rooms you're walking through.
From there, head out into the gardens, where paths lead past fountains and sculpture toward the Grand and Petit Trianon and on to Marie Antoinette's Estate. You can explore at your own pace, whether that's a quick loop through the closest gardens or a full day covering every corner of the grounds. If you've added the seasonal upgrade, the Musical Gardens or Fountain Show make a good way to close out the visit before heading back toward the palace gates.
Things to note
- Bring a passport or ID card for entry, including for children
- Wear comfortable shoes as the gardens and estates cover a large area on foot
- The gardens involve significant walking between the palace, the Trianon and Marie Antoinette's Estate, so plan for several hours if you want to see everything
- Check the fountain show and musical gardens dates before booking the upgrade, as these run seasonally
- Arrive early to avoid the busiest crowds inside the palace
- Bring water and sun protection if visiting the gardens in warmer months, as there's limited shade in open areas
