About this experience

This afternoon-to-night sea kayak tour takes you into Phang Nga Bay's "Hongs" — hidden cliff-lined lagoons tucked inside limestone karst islands, first explored in 1989 by John Gray. Departing Phuket around midday to avoid the busiest hours, you're transferred by boat to the bay, where a support vessel serves as your base for lunch and a briefing before you paddle out.

A professional guide steers you and a partner through narrow tidal sea caves in a custom kayak built by SOTAR, the Oregon-based white water raft manufacturer, into lagoons where macaques, water monitors, kingfishers, egrets, sea eagles and Brahminy kites make their home. As daylight fades, you'll set your own handmade flower kratong afloat, a quiet, spiritual close to the day beneath the karst cliffs of Phang Nga Bay.

The experience wraps with a seafood-and-vegan buffet on the return journey, arriving back at the pier around two hours after sunset. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Phuket are included, making this a full-day outing rather than a quick excursion.

What to expect
Your day starts with hotel pickup in Phuket around 11:30AM, followed by transfer to the pier and a boat ride out into Phang Nga Bay. On board the support boat, you'll get a seafood-vegan buffet lunch and a safety briefing, along with a raptor show, before pairing up for the kayak.
Things to note
- This is a full-day-into-evening outing, running from around 11:30AM pickup to roughly 10PM drop-off
- Wear quick-dry clothing and bring a change of clothes, as you will get wet while kayaking
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses for the hours spent on open water before sunset
- A light jacket or cover-up is worth packing for after dark once the sun goes down
- Skip lunch beforehand as a buffet meal is served on board the support boat
- Bring a dry bag or waterproof case if you want to carry a phone or camera in the kayak
