About this experience

Tucked away in Sanur, Bali's oldest resort town, this silver jewelry making class gives you a hands-on introduction to a craft that's been part of Balinese life for generations. Inside a cozy, air-conditioned studio, you'll work alongside a local silversmith who talks you through each stage of the process, from sawing and shaping to hammering, soldering, and finishing your own piece.

Every package includes 1 to 5 grams of sterling silver, which you'll transform into a ring, pendant, or bracelet using techniques passed down by Sanur's artisan community. Pick from a set of Balinese ocean-inspired designs and minimalist shapes, or bring a sketch of your own if you've got something specific in mind. No prior experience is needed, and the small-group setup means you get real one-on-one attention rather than being lost in a crowd.

Refreshments and local Balinese snacks are included while you work, and the pace is unhurried, more of a relaxed afternoon than a rushed workshop. By the end of the session you'll walk out with a finished piece of jewelry you made yourself, along with a better sense of why silversmithing has remained such a durable craft in this part of Bali.

What to expect

Depending on your package, you'll either be picked up from your hotel or make your own way to the studio in Sanur. Once you arrive, you're introduced to your silversmith and settle into the workspace, where the tools and your 1 to 5 grams of sterling silver are laid out ready to go. After choosing a design, whether a classic Balinese motif or something you've sketched yourself, the silversmith walks you through cutting, shaping, and hammering the metal into form.

Things to note

 • Sessions run daily between 9am and 5pm, so book a time slot that fits the rest of your day
 • Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little marked, as the process involves sawing and soldering metal
 • Closed-toe shoes are a good idea given the tools and workbenches involved
 • If you're outside the complimentary Sanur pickup zone, transport fees apply and are paid in cash to the driver on the day
 • Let the studio know in advance if you'd like to bring your own design to work from
 • The finished piece is yours to keep, so consider what size or style you'd wear afterward
