An "open car" is a freight car without a roof. It is used to transport goods that do not require sealing, are resistant to moisture, or are not easily burned. It was once a common type of freight vehicle on the Taiwan Railway.<img src="https://dimg04.tripcdn.com/images/0355w12000neoybk9E7EC_Z_1000_0.jpg"><img src="https://dimg04.tripcdn.com/images/0351n12000neoxx03A4C6_Z_1000_0.jpg">The Railway Museum's exhibition hall is designed around an amoeba-like display platform, increasing the exhibition area and the length of the model track. The scene configuration is based on the Taiwan North-South Longitudinal Railway, supplemented by railways such as the Sugar, Salt, Forest, and Mining Railways. This reconfigures the geographical region from south to north, transcending time and space, spanning the period from the 1940s to the present. Using HO (1:80) scale models, the museum meticulously simulates the cultural and industrial development trajectories and classic landscapes along each railway line, hoping to present the subtleties of the model scenes at a larger scale. Furthermore, to provide visitors with a more realistic viewing experience, the exhibition area uses theatrical sound and light changes to create a richer and more diverse exhibition effect.<img src="https://dimg04.tripcdn.com/images/0352m12000neoy9x32E3A_Z_1000_0.jpg"><img src="https://dimg04.tripcdn.com/images/0355a12000neoyb9aA607_Z_1000_0.jpg">The Railway Museum's construction took two years and 10,950 man-hours, mobilizing 300 people. The museum covers an area of over 100 square meters and comprises 10 exhibition areas. The total length of the tracks exceeds 2 kilometers, and the routes include four major lines, including the North-South Longitudinal Line, and eight branch lines, including the Sugar, Salt, Forestry, and Mining Lines. Each day, it can accommodate models of Taiwan's classic railway passenger and freight trains with more than 30 vehicle types, which dynamically operate and intersect in as many as 200 classic scenes. The exhibition method and overall scale are unprecedented in Taiwan.
