House of Western Artは、Otaru Art Baseの一部であり、20世紀初頭に建てられた5つの歴史的建造物（Old Shinshokai、Old Takahashi Warehouse、Old Mitsui Bank Otaru Branch、Old Hokkaido Takushoku Bank Otaru Branch、Old Naka Warehouse）で構成されています。これらの建物は、Otaruが主要な港町として繁栄した時代に建設されたもので、保存された建築美そのものが、内部のアート作品と並ぶ大きな見どころとなっています。
