This city sprawls across hundreds of square miles, and trying to do too much in a single day is a fast track to spending most of it in traffic. This guide cuts through the noise and gives you a focused, enjoyable day that covers real highlights without the chaos. Morning: Hollywood and the Walk of Fame (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
8:00 AM – Breakfast in Los Feliz or Hollywood
Start the day early before the crowds arrive. Head to Sqirl in Los Feliz or Eggslut on Sunset Boulevard for a solid breakfast. Both are well-regarded spots that serve quality food without a lot of fuss. Aim to be done by 9:00 AM.
9:00 AM – Hollywood Walk of Fame and Hollywood Boulevard
With breakfast done, make your way to Hollywood Boulevard. Parking is easier before 10:00 AM, and the sidewalks are far more manageable. Walk a few blocks of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, stop at the TCL Chinese Theatre to see the handprints and footprints of film legends, and take in the architecture along the strip. This is a classic stop for a reason, and it moves quickly if you are not stopping every two minutes for photos.
10:00 AM – Warner Bros. Studio Tour
If you have any interest in film or television, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood is one of the best ways to spend a morning in the city. Tours typically run around two to three hours and take you through working backlots, iconic sets, and prop archives. You will want to book your time slot in advance. It is located in Burbank, about 15 minutes from Hollywood Boulevard.
If studio tours are not your thing, you could swap this for a Hollywood Open Bus Tour, which covers a lot of ground in a shorter window and gives you a good feel for the layout of the area.

Afternoon: Lunch, La Brea, and Griffith Park (12:30 PM – 5:30 PM)
12:30 PM – Lunch on Melrose or Fairfax
Head south toward the Fairfax District for lunch. Republique on La Brea Avenue is a reliable choice for something a little more substantial. If you want something casual and quick, Canter's Deli on Fairfax has been a neighborhood institution for decades. Either way, keep it to about an hour so you have the full afternoon ahead of you.
2:00 PM – La Brea Tar Pits
Just a short drive from the Fairfax District, the La Brea Tar Pits Museum is one of the more unusual and genuinely interesting stops in the city. Active excavation sites sit right in the middle of an urban park, and the museum holds thousands of Ice Age fossils recovered from the tar over the past century. It takes about 60 to 90 minutes to move through at a comfortable pace and is well worth the time, especially if you are traveling with curious minds of any age.
3:30 PM – Drive to Griffith Park
From the Tar Pits, it is roughly 20 minutes to Griffith Park depending on traffic. If you have a rental car, drive up to the observatory parking lot. If not, rideshare is straightforward.
4:00 PM – Griffith Observatory
The Griffith Observatory is free to enter and offers some of the best views of the city and the Hollywood Sign without requiring a strenuous hike. Spend some time inside looking at the exhibits, then head outside to the terrace. As the afternoon light shifts, the view across Los Angeles becomes genuinely impressive. If you would prefer a guided experience with some storytelling built in, the Griffith Observatory Open-Top Sunset Tour is a well-organized option that times the visit around golden hour.

Evening: Dinner and a Final View (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM)
6:00 PM – Dinner in Silver Lake or Los Feliz
After the observatory, head back down into Silver Lake or Los Feliz for dinner. Alimento on Silver Lake Boulevard is a neighborhood favorite with a focused Italian-leaning menu. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. If you want something more relaxed, Night + Market Song on Sunset does excellent Thai food in a casual setting.
8:00 PM – Evening Walk or Rooftop Drink
End the night simply. The Perch rooftop bar in Downtown Los Angeles offers an elevated view of the city lights and is easy to reach if you do not mind a short drive. Alternatively, a walk along the Silver Lake Reservoir path as the city settles into the evening is a quieter way to close out the day.

- Getting around: A rental car gives you the most flexibility, but rideshare works well if you are not comfortable driving in a new city. Avoid the 101 and 405 between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM if possible.
