Mount Merapi heeft het landschap ten noorden van Yogyakarta met elke uitbarsting opnieuw vormgegeven, en dit jeepavontuur neemt je mee naar het terrein dat het heeft achtergelaten. Rijdend in een open, voor off-road uitgeruste jeep, doorkruis je lavavelden, rotsachtige paden en rivierovergangen waar gewone voertuigen simpelweg niet kunnen komen, met de vulkaanhellingen als een constant decor.
De route verbindt verschillende locaties die door de geschiedenis van Merapi zijn gevormd: het massagraf Makam Massal ter nagedachtenis aan de slachtoffers van de uitbarstingen, een minimuseum met vulkanische artefacten en foto's, de alien-vormige rotsformatie Batu Alien en Bunker Kaliadem, een schuilplaats die de kracht van de uitbarsting van 2006 niet kon weerstaan. Je stopt ook bij Petilasan Mbah Marijan, het voormalige huis en monument van de voormalige spirituele bewaker van de vulkaan. De route gaat vervolgens over in het meest fysieke deel: een off-road traject door de lavavelden, rotsachtige paden en rivierovergangen van Kalikuning, met voldoende stops om van het vulkanische landschap te genieten. De laatste stop is Petilasan Mbah Marijan, het monument voor de overleden spirituele bewaker van Merapi, voordat de jeep terugkeert. De totale tijd onderweg hangt af van het gekozen pakket, waarbij opties voor zonsopgang, korte en middellange ritten allemaal dezelfde kernroute rond de vulkaan volgen.
