<p>teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi ligt in het Saadiyat Cultural District, direct naast het Louvre Abu Dhabi en Manarat Al Saadiyat. Deze meeslepende kunstlocatie, die tot stand is gekomen in samenwerking tussen het kunstcollectief teamLab, het Ministerie van Cultuur en Toerisme van Abu Dhabi en de Miral Group, gebruikt haar wolkachtige, golvende architectuur als uitgangspunt om de grens tussen de gebouwde omgeving en de omringende natuur te doen vervagen. In plaats van langs statische tentoonstellingsstukken te lopen, beweeg je je door ruimtes waar de kunst zelf op je aanwezigheid reageert.</p><p>De locatie is verdeeld in een Dry Zone en een Wet Zone, waarbij de laatste is voorzien van installaties met ondiep water waar je doorheen loopt als onderdeel van de ervaring. Elk element, van lichtpatronen tot geluid, verandert afhankelijk van hoe bezoekers zich bewegen, de ruimte aanraken en ermee omgaan, waardoor geen twee bezoeken precies hetzelfde verlopen. Het is minder een galerie in de traditionele zin en meer een levende omgeving die is opgebouwd rond het idee van teamLab om de relatie tussen mens en natuur te verkennen via interactieve technologie.</p><p>Net buiten ligt het strand van het eiland Saadiyat, met zijn witte zand en groen, dat op elk moment te bezoeken is, waardoor je een paar uur bij teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi gemakkelijk kunt combineren met wat tijd op het strand, voor of na je bezoek.</p>
Wat kun je verwachten
Je begint met het betreden van de kenmerkende, wolkachtige structuur van teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, waar de grens tussen binnen en buiten vrijwel onmiddellijk begint te vervagen. Van daaruit beweeg je je in je eigen tempo door een reeks ruimtes en installaties in de Dry Zone, waar licht, projecties en geluid reageren op je bewegingen, en de Wet Zone, waar ondiep water onderdeel wordt van het kunstwerk zelf. Er is geen vaste route — je wordt aangemoedigd om rond te dwalen, even stil te staan en interactie aan te gaan in plaats van een voorgeschreven pad te volgen.
Belangrijke opmerkingen
- In de Wet Zone moet je door ondiep water lopen, dus draag kleding die best een beetje nat mag worden of neem een setje reservekleding mee
- In watergebieden kun je schoenen met gesloten tenen vervangen door blote voeten of sandalen — kijk wat het handigst is voor jouw bezoek
- Bij sommige installaties is de verlichting gedempt, dus geef je ogen even de tijd om zich aan te passen als je van de ene ruimte naar de andere gaat
- Combineer je bezoek met een bezoek aan het nabijgelegen Louvre Abu Dhabi of Manarat Al Saadiyat, aangezien deze op loopafstand liggen
