Informazioni sull'esperienza
Il Mount Merapi ha rimodellato il paesaggio a nord di Yogyakarta con ogni eruzione, e questa avventura in jeep ti porta direttamente nel terreno che si è lasciato alle spalle. Viaggiando su una jeep scoperta dotata di attrezzatura fuoristrada, attraverserai campi di lava, sentieri rocciosi e guadi fluviali che i normali veicoli non possono superare, con le pendici del vulcano come costante sfondo.
Il percorso unisce diversi siti plasmati dalla storia del Merapi: il Makam Massal, la fossa comune che commemora le vittime dell'eruzione, un mini museo di reperti e fotografie vulcaniche, la formazione rocciosa Batu Alien dalla forma aliena e il Bunker Kaliadem, un rifugio che non riuscì a resistere alla forza dell'eruzione del 2006. Farai tappa anche al Petilasan Mbah Marijan, l'ex dimora e memoriale dello storico custode spirituale del vulcano. Tra una sosta e l'altra, il tratto fuoristrada attraverso Kalikuning regala la parte più adrenalinica del viaggio, sobbalzando sul terreno vulcanico accidentato con pause regolari per scattare foto al paesaggio circostante.

Cosa aspettarsi
Il viaggio inizia con il prelievo in jeep e un primo tratto verso il Makam Massal, la fossa comune in onore di chi ha perso la vita nelle eruzioni del Merapi, seguito dal piccolo museo che ospita reperti vulcanici e fotografie. Da lì, la jeep prosegue verso Batu Alien per scattare foto alla caratteristica formazione rocciosa, prima di dirigersi al Bunker Kaliadem, dove scoprirai il suo ruolo di rifugio fallito durante l'eruzione del 2006.
Il percorso si sposta poi verso il tratto più movimentato: un tragitto fuoristrada attraverso i campi di lava, i sentieri rocciosi e i guadi di Kalikuning, con numerose soste per ammirare lo scenario vulcanico. L'ultima tappa è il Petilasan Mbah Marijan, il memoriale del defunto custode spirituale del Merapi, prima che la jeep faccia ritorno. Il tempo totale su strada dipende dal pacchetto scelto, con opzioni di viaggio all'alba, brevi e di media durata che coprono tutte lo stesso itinerario principale intorno al vulcano.
