Zhanshan Temple is located in the southwest of Zhanshan Mountain in the east of Qingdao City and at the eastern foot of Taiping Mountain. It was planned to be built in 1933 and completed in 1945, covering an area of 23 acres. Construction began in 1934 with funds raised by Buddhist laymen, and it lasted for ten years until the gate was completed in 1944. Zhanshan Temple belongs to the Tiantai Sect of Buddhism. The first presiding officer was Yanxu, a famous contemporary monk. He founded the Zhanshan Temple Buddhist Academy. It is said that at that time, "eminent monks from all over the country came flying to the tin, Master Hongyi held a sutra banquet, Buddhist disciples from all over the world gathered, and good men and women gathered. For a time, It is extremely prosperous and famous for its remoteness." At the beginning of the construction of the temple, in order to cultivate talents for promoting Buddhism, the temple established a Buddhist specialized tutorial class with the purpose of "teaching and explaining the Tiantai and practicing the Pure Land". In 1940, the "Qingdao Zhanshan Buddhist School" was established. Many domestic moral eminent monks come here to give lectures, and Zhanshan Temple is famous at home and abroad for this reason. During the time when Zhanshan Temple was in operation, Master Hongyi came here to give lectures. Hongyi is a well-known writer and artist in my country. Hongyi is the name of Li Shutong who became a monk. The songs he composed were once widely popular, and many of his poems are masterpieces handed down from generation to generation. In 1918, he became a monk at Hupao Temple in Hangzhou. He was a famous monk studying the law in China. In 1937, he was invited by Danxuzhi to give lectures at Zhanshan Temple, attracting many visitors. , an endless stream. Zhanshan Temple is located between Taiping Mountain and Zhanshan Mountain. The scenery is different in four seasons. Especially in summer and autumn, you can appreciate the artistic conception of the poem "Summer is like autumn in a corner of Zhanshan Mountain". When visiting Zhanshan Temple, the pond in front of the temple is a must-see. There is a pool of clear water here, with lotus flowers in full bloom and willow leaves hanging low in summer. This pool was originally a place where good men and women released lives to accumulate virtue, so it was named "Release Pool". Around the pool and up the steps, you will find the temple with the north facing south and the fifth entrance into the courtyard. The first entrance is the mountain gate. There are three characters "Zhanshan Temple" on the mountain gate. The second step is the main hall, dedicated to Maitreya Bodhisattva. The graceful bell tower and drum tower are located on the east and west sides of the vestibule. After bypassing the main hall, you enter the third courtyard. The central building of the Buddhist temple, the Mahavira Hall, stands high on the granite platform. The Main Hall is the main hall of the temple, dedicated to Sakyamuni, with Manjushri and Samantabhadra Bodhisattvas on the left and right. Passing through the garden-like patio and entering the fourth courtyard, the plaque "Haiyin Heritage" inscribed by Mr. Zhao Puchu on the Three Holy Temples is particularly eye-catching. Visitors who understand the history of the dispute between monks and Taoists in Haiyin Temple in Laoshan will know it at a glance. , the plaque was inscribed in memory of Master Hanshan in the Ming Dynasty. The three holy temples are dedicated to Amitabha Buddha, with Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattvas on the left and right respectively. The fifth entrance to the courtyard is the Sutra Collection Building, which is built at the north end of the temple and houses thousands of volumes of Buddhist classics. Outside Bodhi Courtyard, a seven-level pagoda is located on a rocky hill. The name of the pagoda is "Pagoda of Medicine Master Glazed Light Tathagata". People who climb the pagoda can have a panoramic view of the mountains and sea of the island city. Zhanshan Temple is located in a beautiful place with a lot of tourists, especially during the temple fair during the Buddha Bathing Festival on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month. With its unique location, Zhanshan Temple shines with its holy brilliance in the modern city. The ever-extinguishing green lanterns and the chanting of the eternal Zen heart allow modern people to experience a mysterious inspiration and immortal understanding.
