About this experience

This off-road adventure puts you behind the wheel of a UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) on the slopes of Mount Merapi, one of Yogyakarta's most striking natural landmarks. The route is built for all skill levels, starting gently and building up to genuinely challenging terrain, so you don't need prior off-roading experience to take part.

You'll start along quiet village trails, passing rice fields and getting a glimpse of everyday rural life around Yogyakarta, before the track opens onto Merapi's volcanic rock terrain. From there you'll head into a dedicated drift and mud zone where you can push the UTV into slides, then through river crossings and water splashes that guarantee you'll finish muddy and soaked. Along the way, an educational stretch covers the history of Mount Merapi's eruptions, and the route ends at a site shaped by the 2010 eruption, with volcanic boulders forming a dramatic backdrop for photos.

Before setting off, you'll get a full safety briefing, a helmet and boots, and time in a practice area to get comfortable with the controls. The whole experience, from registration to the final stretch, runs about 1.5 to 2 hours.

What to expect

After a quick registration, you'll get a full safety briefing and instructions on operating the UTV, along with a helmet and boots. There's also time in a practice area to get familiar with the vehicle before heading onto the main track, so you'll feel ready even if this is your first time off-roading.
